We are happy to announce that Tweetmondo for Layar is now available.
Tweetmondo for Layar allows you to find Tweeple and Tweets nearby (and soon friends too).
The image on the left shows a screenshot of the users view. Each bird represents a Twitter user nearby, and users that had their location updated less than 15 mins ago show up with a small “RT” (real time).
You can click on someone’s profile to see more details, follow and send tweets from within the application, and there are 2 other views in addition to the augmented reality view, to help you sort out your results.
Another cool feature is the ability to send your location to Tweetmondo.com server, so other Tweetmondo.com users can see your most current location. You can enable or disable location sharing right from your phone at any time, visiting the “privacy” link.

Layar is currently available for Android phones only, but as previously said, I expect it to be available on the iPhone soon, followed by other platforms. If you are an Android owner, you can get Layar at the Android Marketplace and once it’s installed, just search for Tweetmondo.
AR, or Augmented Reality is a new way to look at reality. By using an AR-capable smartphone (like the Android or Iphone), you can add valuable information to your world. Although very impressive, until now most approaches have been proof of concepts and educational applications.
There is one company, however, that came up with a very smart solution and they are launching their solution in August. Check out a demo of the Layar:
They have hand-picked a few companies to be the first ones to develop Augmented Reality applications in their platform, and Tweetmondo is one of them.
Initially, Layar will be available for Android Phones only, but Iphone will be supported soon too (followed by other platforms)

You might notice that the blog has changed. This is because we decide to move everything to a better hosting provider, after having some problems with the old one. Every time the site was featured in a major blog or news service, the site would start to experience timeouts and all sorts of problems. Things look better now in the hosting side, and meanwhile we have been trying to improve our code so things run faster and with less resources. As a result of these efforts, I hope we don’t experience any sort of timeout problems for a long time now.
We will make the old blog postings available at some point within the next few weeks.
